An animated simulator for SYN flood attack has been developed by the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina A&T State University. The goal of this animated simulator is to provide users interactive tutorials and simulations to help them better understand the concepts of internet security and computer networks. This tool can be used in an introductory level of computer security course or computer network courses by instructors in classroom and/or by students outside classroom.

The interactive animated simulator demonstrates visually how a SYN flood attack works in a local area network environment, and how data packets are sent and received on a normal network.  It also exhibits the method that can be used to prevent a SYN flood attack.

This simulator consists of the Introduction of SYN flood, the interactive animated demonstration, and external links for more information.

Note:   Macromedia Flash MX Player is needed to run the demo. If your system does not have the player, please click here to download the free Macromedia Flash Player.
